Ahhhh

This week hasn’t all been fun and games but its not as if most weeks are. Uni deadlines are fast approaching and one assignment I havn’t really started yet. However I am looking positive towards it and will be able to make them, I have a CCNA4 skills test coming up which I’m not too sure about so I’ll be revising for that pretty soon.

My placement search is on the hills, although new placements are popping up I have found myself without the time to apply. I have got plenty of time however as most deadlines are for January so that will be a job for the xmas hols, however as expected I did not make the second stage of the GCHQ recruiment, I’m glad I tried though, somehow I knew I wouldn’t get through.

Last weekend I was down at the NEC on sunday afternoon helping my parents take their stand down at a show. At the time time is another hall at the NEC was the MPH show, didn’t get a chance to look round but there was some pretty sweet cars zooming around the car parks.

However this week hasn’t been a good week for my car, its finally got a problem with it. I suppose I’ve been expecting it, as I havn’t had anything major happen since I got it back in Mayand well this week with the lots of speed bumps and an emergency stop because of some stupid driver on the road. My front bumper decided it couldn’t hold on any longer and fell off, thankfully it fell over just as I was parking up at uni, so there wasn’t any drama on the side of the road.

Should be getting it fixed before the xmas hols so at the minute its hidden away, which is great I’m not spending money on petrol anymore! shame its now come down is price and is still falling, hope it stays that way.

Anyway until next time.
Look out for my review of my new D-Link DIR-655 router

Russell Howard, 8th November

I’m off to see Russell Howard soon! I booked the tickets about a month ago and heard the other day they have arrived!

Russell Howard is a regular on the popular BBC comedy/news show called Mock the Week. I’m going down to London to see him at the Apollo, Hammersmith as his Stafford date was sold out by the time we decided to book.

I’m going with Matt, one of my flat mates and Alice his girlfriend as we all share a funny bone for Mock and Week, Alice lives in London so hoping to get a little tour, I haven’t been down to the big city for over 6 years now and it be nice to see all the new attractions.

iPod Touch and Replacement Phone

I got myself an iPod Touch today, well it came today I ordered it on monday after Matt, a flatmate pushed me over the edge and I took a leap and ordered one. I had been thinking of getting one for a while but decided against as the new generation was not to far in the distance which is what I have got.

It was a few differences apparently including a speaker and a volume button on the side. Overall I’m very impressed with this little device! I’ve put some music on it, set up googlemail and my uni e-mail (impressive) and I’ve downloaded a few must have apps for example the wordpress app which I’m using to write this post.

The main reason I got this was to help me organise myself, at uni I find a always need a pc to check e-mail and update my calender but the touch is my answer as there is a wifi network on campus and I can access pretty much anything from anywhere with a hotspot! Great!

Another package also turned up today, my new k850i as mine broke and Orange insurance kindly got a new one sent to me in under 24hours! Magic!

Busy, Busy, Busy!

I thought I’d take a break and write a post. I’m currently in the process of updating my CV and I’m starting to apply for placements for the sandwich part of my course at Stafford! As expect Year2 has a lot more work involved I’m working on 3 assignments at the moment!

C++ I’m finding hard which I expected and the assignment is going to be a challenge I foresee but I’m sure I’ll get over that bridge.

I have also joined Trentham Canoe Club to escape for all this work on Wednesdays, only been once so far and I did end up in the lake but I hope to join and it be regular occurrence.

How To: Load Balance Network Adapters in XP

If you have two or more network cards in your system this setting allows you to distribute the number of connections across each adapter. I have found it useful on my file sever when numerous files are being streamed across the network, adding this on a switched network allows you to get more bandwidth out of your system.

Here is how to do it:

- Click Start, Run and type “regedit”
- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SYSTEM, CurrentControlSet, Services, NetBT, Parameters
- Right Click in the window to the right, New , DWORD value
- Enter “RandomAdapter” and give it a value of 1
- Restart system.
