No Post, No Video Display – Asus P6T-SE
Yesterday the new machine I built had an Asus P6T-SE motherboard. Once built and switched on we found that the machine would not boot or show any video display. A quick google resolved this to conclude the BIOS needing a new firmware update but how can you update it without video display?
Well it seemed to boot without a DVI cable attached. So remove all video cables including VGA and boot the machine wait 3/5 minutes and attach a VGA cable and the monitor should display the BIOS asking to confirm default settings.
Head over to the ASUS Support Site and download the latest firmware (Version 0403) and burn it to a CD. Don’t forget to unzip it first. Updating the motherboard was straight forward using Asus EZ Flash utility in the BIOS and took a minute or two.

First Day
So I suppose for the 3000 word report I apprently have to write on my placement year I should start writing about the day to day business of my placement experience. Well my first day is over and done with and now it seems quite exhausting. Myself and Tal, the current placement student sorted out my computer which took a while because of some trouble with getting it to recognise the hard drive. Later I built a new computer for the MD a nice and powerful Intel quad core machine which I believe will be hooked up to a very nice new24in monitor. This also gave us some problems but a quick Google resolved that issue and it turned out a quick BIOS update was needed.
Really enjoyed my first day even with the high temperatures up in the office. On to the next!
Rain!
So I have moved to Birmingham ready to start placement on Monday. It was another humid day but towards late afternoon it started to rain with the odd thunder and lighting strikes. I needed to go to Tesco and not knowing where that was I used the sat nav which took me pass this, a sight dip in the road which had gathered a lot of water..
And yes, I did drive though it..
Move In Day
I have now got the keys for my home for the next year or so in Birmingham. I haven’t exactly packed but I should be moving tomorrow and starting placement on Monday!
I seemed to have been corner by my parents to do some IT work for them today so I think I’ll be packing much just the essentials much like friends Andy and Michael who will be traveling to Germany soon for their placement so good luck to them!
iPhone 3GS
Not a picture of it as I was using it to take the photo.. the box will have to do!
Broken Down!
If you’ve been following my tweets you’ll know I broke down on the M6 early this morning. I ran out of petrol! I wasn’t happy and I was quite annoyed their is not a single service station on the A14! I was heading up to Stafford to collect my iPhone after having a break with friends in Great Yarmouth! It had been a awesome little break which was spent drinking ice cold beer in the evening and enjoying the little sun we had during the day. However the £135 recovery fee today didn’t end the break well.
Here is a picture of the Astra being picked up by the recover truck!
