Windows Home Server January Update – KB958926

An update to the Windows Home Server has released yesterday by the Windows Home Server Team.

Today the Windows Home Server team is releasing a small update to the product. The update improves the capability of Windows Home Server to repair abnormalities detected in the home computer backup database.

The update should be automatically downloaded and installed on your home server over the next several days, if you have Windows Update turned on.

More Info can be found here.

I updated mine last night which also included the updates Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86 (248 MB)

New Monitor

After spending a week with only my 22in widescreen monitor as my other has broken I decided I really can’t work without dual screens.. So to set aside my money saving plan I decided to spend a small sum of money on a new monitor. I opted for the LG W2242T, it is the same size as my other monitor and now just fits on my desk.

Specs:

Size 22″ wide format
Brightness 300cd/m2
Contrast ratio 8000:1 (DFC)
Viewing angle H 176 V 170
Response time 5ms
Supported colours 16.7M
Resolution 1680 x1050 (WSXGA+)

The only down side to it is that the two monitors display a slightly different colour of white. The new monitor is brighter and appears whiter which is great for working on but as a result my other monitor appears to have a darker white colour.

On another note if anyone is using dual screen without the handy program Ultramon, I think you need to click the link…

Domains…

A long time ago in another millennia, nearly 5 years ago I registered the domain Tom-Lawrence.co.uk.. My dad got it for me when he was registering domains for his business and a couple of days ago I happened to do a search for it and remembered we’d purchased it.. I’ve just got hold of the account details and now the domain forwards here.. Tom-Lawrence.co.uk.

This was when I was helping my flatmates decide on a name for their business which they are undertaking during their placement year.. They were looking at domain names which is how I came about tom-lawrence.co.uk… I have also acquired Tomlawrence.info as there is a deal with goDaddy, get 5 domains and get private registration free, so to fill the spaces they kindly got it for me.. £0.69p

Anywho….

Windows 7

I’ve just installed the new beta of Microsoft’s next operating system, Windows 7. I’m running it on my main machine using VMware, which is actually really cool and easy to use.

Windows 7 on the another hand looks and feels quite amazing. The new desktop layout is very impressed, I could quickly get used to this. I especially like how you have more control over the system tray. It is rather annoying when you have lots of application icons in the corner with there notifications that the world is ending etc.. The task bar has also under gone a refurb and it works quite well.

On another note, I reinstalled Windows Home Server on the media machine. The problems I had

Money Saving

The start of term starts to tomorrow (Thank you Google Calender reminders) and the start of my money saving plan! Over the past couple of terms I have had a rough idea on budgeting my money but at the end of the term is seems its all gone down the pan and I have next to nothing left!

So with the new year I have decided to budget my money, my debit card will stay at home and I’ll only have £55 to spend a week! This should leave me at the end not so much positive but a lot less negative.

To kick start this plan I have reduced my mobile phone bill, because of the stupid rules I can only reduce it once and at one step at a time (Oh but I can upgrade how ever many times I want, Grrr, Stupid Orange) but I have now saving a little bit and as they say, A little bit goes a long way..

To help motivate me I have decided that left overs of each week will be set aside and will hopefully build up so I can get some new hard drives for the media server and put Windows Home Server back on it!

WordPress App

Just a post to show off the WordPress app I have just downloaded on my iPod Touch, fancy eh? I’m rather impressed now I can post to my blog from anywhere with a wi-fi connection. I am starting to think I need an iPhone….?

Thought I’d share a picture I took of my uni with my k850i. The Octagon Building taken from the top of the beacon building. I took it a while ago as you can see because its sunny.
